Sure looks as though the cartoonist is saying that the Chinese deserve gold for their efforts in support of human rights, political freedom and peace in Darfur. The cartoonist probably meant the opposite, but that's how it looks to me. China has changed dramatically in recent years, but it hasn't become a bastion of freedom and tolerance.

If this is another New Yorker attempt to engage in irony, the artwork is stunning.

THE cartoonist seems to be an unmitigated unmitigated apologist, or he is trying to get invited to a Chinese cartoon festival.

I really feel that China will follow the universal human rights and freedom path for the good of Humanity to survive.
