The cartoon doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But when you think about it this problem is eliminating lots of food groups from the diet.Could this problem be caused by inadequate sanitary facilities in the fields for the workers?

At least fresh tomatoes were affordable for a few weeks and eating them raw and unwashed had the added potential of a great weight reduction plan!

Ok...is there actually a point to this cartoon or is it another example of sophomoric conservative humor?

DUMB! The only thing I can think this cartoon is about, considering the conservative slant of Cagle cartoons, is to blame the FDA, who has seen it's budgets slashed to a third of it's strength during Bill Clintons presidency. So we have the GOP again proving how regulation doesn't work because the GOP has crippled it and FEMA by slashing it's budgets and appointing incompetent cronies to head these organizations who used to work just fine when Democrats were in charge.
This also proves that there is no real liberal media to speak of, since the conservative cartoons is what the papers want. Nope, just right wing conservative ideology is what we get from the mainstream media.for liberal toons, check out www.whatnowtoons.com

Tomatoes are good for you, if the obese ate fresh vegetables and fruit instead of take out and fries then the obesity problem would go away!

We can assume that the people in black are Vegans "getting even" for years of being ignored.

gholleran - you are such a GOOB."if the obese..."If idiots all stuck their heads up their butts and farted....well, sorry.Gee hollerin' - don't make global comments like that - you have NO idea what the circumstance is for each person YOU think is obese.

Actually, Tomatos like every thing has their dark side, if eaten alone in goodly quantities can cause stomach problems and even ulcers because of the acidness of the fruit. For most people its a matter of too much weight, for some it's a matter of fat heads, normally among the "elites".Gee the "big fix" wash the tomatos before you eat them.
