Sad to say that the highest positive McCain has is osama obama's negatives. Based on the your blog earlier, which is liked and used part of, the second biggest is the loon bird wacky followers of this "good speaker" empty suit.

I like Borowitz and his irreverent take on things generally, but the New Yorker cartoon was offensive — not because of the image of the Obamas that it presented, but because there was no context given for it. As satire, it missed its real target — not the Obamas, but those who portray them as fudamentalist Muslims or terrorists. As the presidential campaign heats up, there will be more satire of Obama, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I think that Obama showed in the primaries that he could take the abuse as well as the criticism. Those who are waiting for him to fail are in for a long wait.

1) I agree with the comment above - the cover did not give any context for it's illustration, making it a bad example of satire as well as thoughtless. 2) For everyone who complains about Obama reacting to this image- what if you and your wife were the ones portrayed on that cover? Would you just be ok with it? Would you say nothing? Would you be expected to? Of course not! He just reacted to it the way anyone- or any Political Cantidate of any party- would have reacted to such a magazine cover.

This is the choice the democrats have made and now want to cry foul any time something doesn't suit them. If Obama had not spent considerable time with Ayers and Wright there would be no real issue here. It would have been much more realistic if the wife would have been giving large amounts of dough to all the big players in the campaign. Now I'm no real fan of McCain either and would find it just as humorous if they showed him in similar satiracle cartoons. Let's face it people, both the major candidates are lame and in the pocket of big business. Neither give a rats ass about the citizens and will continue to profit at our expense. I personally don't believe there is much conscience anywhere in DC, not much in any state legislature either. What can we do about it though? If anyone could come up with the answer to that, I'm sure there would be some government snipers aiming them up, hah.

I actually laughed out loud at the last joke.

Rees - When a person decides to run for Presidential Office - along with the charter jets, limosines, Secret Service, adulating crowds, etc comes an "anything goes" attitude as far as the press is concerned. This has been the MO of elections since Gary Hart ran for office. Though this precedent for the feeding frenzy doesn't make it right - how many good leaders are turned off because they don't want their families targeted - or the skeletons (Old Uncle Bob is gay!) spread all over the tabloids.Obama knew the deal when he got in. He has played the game and let his wife run around flapping her jaws. He has taken the opportunity to exploit any publicity that has come his way. Now, because he doesn't like the ramifications of this particular piece of publoicity, it is all of a sudden off the table...What extrapolation can be seen with "Freedom of the Press" and "Freedom of Speech" with an Obama Administration? My summary? Scary.

TanyaMe to. The fourth was supposed to be funny because the "intellectual elites" were supposed to have gotten the "joke", apparently not, nor was McCain, a reflexive act to cover the base perhaps. And if I were to run for President, not being in any of the MSM's favored groups, I, my wife, my dead grandfather would be raked over the coals and gutted in that order.Ms Clinton had 500 FBI files outside her office on a desk and there was a 2 line blurb on page you'll never see it. Chuck Colson was in position of 3 files and got 3-5 years in the slammer.

America is a great Country and I am proud of it, even if we have had few good leaders in the last fifty years. The best people don't even think about taking the job because we all have something that we are not proud of in our personal history. They also wouldn't want the pay cut, even if they do get free housing and maid service. Our political system isn't just lame, it is shackled. Neither party has been able to put up a first class candidate. The Democrats have a great, effective leader in Bill Richardson, but chose a circus ringmaster instead. The Republicans had a few fair choices, but there were so many of them that they trampled each other into the ground. If you can find the blog, here, by Larry Elder, it has about twenty questions that should be put to Barack Obama. It won't happen, but just hearing the questions MIGHT make voters think again.A large part of our population will always vote for the same party, no matter who they have running. That puts the election in the hands of the independents and thinking people. I hope that a lot of people think before voting this time around.

That satire was a case of idiots in the Obama campaign being unable to take a joke not even directed at them.
