Abraham Lincoln seldom made a long speech. He wrote the Gettysburgh Address on the back of an envelope. That's right. We didn't have many professional speechwriters 140+ years ago. Honest Abe made it work and he did rise to the occasion. He commanded the troops in what had to be the most heartbreaking war that our Country has ever fought.I hope that no other American President ever has to face a problem like that again. We have enough new ones.Sometime back, a column suggested that Senators never be allowed to run for President. Senators never get a proper feel for the job. That was not an observation by the columnist. It was made by a judge and political analyst.Govenors are a far better choice. They have to manage to be successful and effective. They have to know when to call out the National Guard and what to do in most emergencies. They even have to live within a budget, which would be great training for a President. They also may be called upon to make life, or death, decisions. For a Senator, troops are often just numbers, while a Governor recognizes them as people. There is a vast difference.Bill Clinton did as well as he did because he had been a Govenor before he was elected to the Presidency. That was a plus for him. Neither Obama or McCain have those credentials.John McCain made a wise choice. Both candidates have broken new ground this election, in their candidacy and choice of running mates, although Joe Biden is a lot like Dubya picking Dick Cheney as his running mate.May the best lady become our next Vice-President. I am sure that she was a wise choice.

John--I agree with most of what you said. If you get a chance read "Lincoln's Sword". It's about his writing ability and how he developed his command of language. One of the interesting thing about Lincoln was he was really a very poor speaker. His voice was very grating. But that didn't matter because the listeners were few compared to the reprints in the newspapers.I have heard the Governor theory, but I have a different theory. I think the best presidents are the most intelligent. It doesn't really matter conservative or liberal or any other label. We don't know the questions that will need to be answered. The most intelligent person can process the information and come up with the best line to follow. I don't really want a president "like me". I want the smartest person we can find.

It is interesting. After reading Sarah's bio she has accomplished more than Obama has. In regards to change she has done what Obama says he wants to do but has not and it is more apparent with his choice of Biden. After all - lets look at Biden's (senator since 1972 who has not changed) true feelings.BIDEN: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man." BIDEN: "You cannot go into a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. Oh, I'm not joking." BIDEN: "Delaware was a slave state that fought beside the North. That's only because we couldn't figure out how to get to the South. There were a couple of states in the way."More Foreign Policy lets look at Bill Clinton.CLINTON - sent troops into peacekeeping operations in Bosnia, Haiti and Kosovo but did nothing when the USS Cole was attacked and did nothing when the World Trade Center was attacked in 1993.Now lets look at Jimmy Carter.JIMMY CARTER - Did nothing when Iran took American hostages. Russia invaded Afghanistan. He prohibited Americans from participating in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow (sound familiar - Russia invaded Georgia during the olympics - ok Afghanistan was a few months before but talk about history repeating itself). And wait for it - CARTER reinstated registration for the draft for young males. Important Read: http://www.caglepost.com/column.aspx?c=7597Even Clarence Page, author of this article puts it in perspective - "Obama's rapid rise owes much to his being in the right place and time with the right inspiring thoughts for the nation." Unfortunately he does not have the action that McCain's VP choice has. www.pcbullbuster.com

Ah yes, Republicans justifying Palin as the right choice for VP. Oh, but let's not forget, wasn't Dubya a governor too? And what about Sarah's bio makes her more accomplished than Obama? Raising five kids? Your first runner up in a beauty pageant doesn't have enough community service than Obama. Why don't we make those kinds of comparisons instead?

Ok George, because you are lazy or just ddo not want to see the facts about Obama.Palin's Experience:She won and served two terms on the council from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, she challenged and defeated incumbent mayor John Stein, criticizing wasteful spending and high taxes. Palin followed through on her campaign promises to reduce her own salary, and to reduce property taxes by 40%. She ran for re-election against Stein in 1999, winning by an even larger margin. Palin was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served from 2003 to 2004 until resigning in protest over what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders, who ignored her whistleblowing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest. After she resigned, she exposed the state Republican Party's chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners, who was accused of doing work for the party on public time, and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail. Palin filed formal complaints against both Ruedrich and former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes, who both resigned; Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine. She has challenged the state's Republican leaders, helping to launch a campaign by Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell to unseat U.S. Congressman Don Young and publicly challenging Senator Ted Stevens to come clean about the federal investigation into his financial dealings (wow talk about effecting Change). Palin rescinded 35 appointments made by Murkowski in the last hours of his administration, including that of his former chief of staff James "Jim" Clark to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority. Clark later pleaded guilty to conspiring with a defunct oil-field-services company to channel money into Frank Murkowski's re-election campaign. When on June 6, 2007, the Alaska Creamery Board recommended closing Matanuska Maid Dairy, an unprofitable state-owned business, Palin objected, citing concern for the impact on dairy farmers and the fact that the dairy had just received $600,000 in state money. When Palin found out that the Board of Agriculture and Conservation appoints Creamery Board members, she replaced the entire membership of the Board of Agriculture and Conservation. The new board reversed the decision to close the dairy, but later in 2007, with Palin's support, the unprofitable business was put up for sale.Obama's Experience:Gave a speech that someone wrote for him. Went to Europe and said how bad Americans are. Wrote two books. Has ties to Ayers and Ties to Rezko.www.pcbullbuster.com

Now the election is going to get interesting. BTW where is my buddy Geoff. He is usually just a pearl of wisdom. Hahahahhahhahhahhhahahahhahahhh

I find it to be insulting that John McCain thinks he can draw Hillary supporters (and other women as well) merely by putting a "skirt" on his ticket.Palin's political positions are entirely antithetical to this of Hillary Clinton. It's laughable that McCain thinks women are so simple-minded that they will flock to vote for a bright-eyed woman with a grating voice who identifies herself as a reformer. As VP, she won't have any power or opportunity to reform SQUAT.The whole thing is a joke. And it leads many to ponder whether McCain is really thinking clearly. After all, he is 72...
Oh yeah, one more thing.Does McCain have a thing for Barbie dolls?

HA HA HA the poor Repugs trying to spin, twirl, dance to justify a huge election killing blunder. Lets see her record : left the population 5000 town she was mayor of with a huge debt...Increased the Alaska state budget by 6% in less than 2 years,Advocates anti-choice as well as anti-birth control (read American Taliban) The focus of a criminal investigation... (will fit right in with the DOJ folks)The rest of this election is going to be like a Monty Python movie...lololol

Hey I am not a Democrat but here is what I found (to answer some posts here). Well Ms. Palin is a shrewd politician...In her speech at Dayton she takes credit for stopping the'Bridge to Nowhere' yet the official word is 'Palin initially expressed support for the Gravina Island Bridge project,[48] commonly known outside the state as the "Bridge to Nowhere." However, once it had become a nationwide symbol of wasteful earmark spending and some federal funding was lost, Palin cancelled the bridge because Alaska's congressional delegation was unable to prevent the state of Alaska from having to pay for part of the bridge's construction.[24][49] Alaska still kept the federal money,(Wikpedia). A press release also quotes her as complimenting Sen. Obama on his energy plan and thanking both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain for their support of the Alaskan gasline. She won the Governorship by a 42% vote margin.By the way Obama wrote his convention speech, and he is 'A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2003. After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel.'(Wikpedia)For a complete comparison of experience see Wikpedia..it is interesting. So if you really care about your vote do some research before you post.

This campaign has become the number one American Soap Opera. We watch it daily, we listen to the journalists and pundits repeat the same litany day after day hoping to improve their ratings as they reveal their biases. There is one thing I do know - I don't want a 72 year old maverick for president whose choice for vice president is a conservative, self-centered young woman who cares very little for the rights of all American women.

Debillo is right. This is another pandering effort by McCain. He did it first with Evangelical Christians, now he's trying to do it with women. Won't work, John. We women didn't just want A woman, we wanted That Woman, Hillary Clinton. Ok, so Barack Obama received more votes than she. So he's now the Democratic nominee. Get over it; we will. But putting an inexperienced pol on the ticket doesn't make sense for the country.Obama's smarter than McCain, he's younger by far than McCain, which is not necessarily a bad thing about McCain, but McCain would put a rank amateur a heartbeat from the Presidency. I remember Dan Quayle--do you? The thought of that idiot with his hand on the Red Phone made my skin crawl. Palin doesn't bring much more comfort. Republicans don't have a great track record when it comes to picking veeps.I lived in Alaska--it is not like any of the Lower 48 states, it is its own little world. Palin is used to being in charge--a big fish in a very little pond. Put her in DC and she will fade like yesterday's newspapers. As for "saving" federal money--honey, Alaska has more money than it knows what to do with. Residents pay no state tax, and in the 1980s and 90s, received money from the state! Whether they still do, I don't know, but Money is not a problem for Alaska.Obama makes better judgments. He did, after all, vote against going into Iraq in the first place, and he did select someone who actually could step into the Presidency if, God forbid, something happens to him. As for Palin, she accomplished becoming Mayor of her home town, 8,000 there, then Governor of the least-populated state in the nation--fewer than Rhode Island. Wow, mind-boggling range, isn't it? I have nothing against her personally, lovely woman, but what she stands for gives me that creepy feeling again: she would tell me what the size of my family will be, will disallow my gay neighbors to wed, would teach Creationism over Evolution (come on!) probably supports every one of McCain's me-too decisions a la G W Bush, and Heaven help us if those two nominate new Supreme Court Justices. She has a right to her opinion, but she (and McCain) do not have the right to shove them down our throats.Palin made her first speech in front of a banner reading "Country First". What hypocrisy! Bush is president of the Republicans, and McCain would be no different. No, Sarah Palin is not a good choice for VP of the USA. She resembles no one so much as Madame DeFarge.

I am wondering how long it will take Obama-ists to miss-pronounce PA-lin as PAL-in. Geez! that would be close to PALL-idin. You know; "Have Gun, Will Travel" on his 'business cards, quoting Shakespeare? Well now, putting aside her NRA credentials, she is quite ready to "hunt bear" in DC; as is John McCain. THAT two-some will be formidable. John's age/health a problem? Ask his mother about that. I, being a young pup myself about two years younger than he, do truly believe that his administration will be the full eight years. Test it! Prove us wrong!

Ecor--If you get a chance, go see McCain in person. He is really old and mentally slow. I also saw Reagan when he was running and did not get that impression. But McCain is what he is stereotyped as. I don't know if it goes back to his imprisonment or just genetics but he's not as sharp as I'm sure he was. Too bad that he didn't win in 2000 so he would be leaving office now. With proper editing this doesn't show up on TV as it does in person.
Dear Lynne Are you yet 18 and eligible to vote in November? I hope not. Check this false statement of yours: "Obama makes better judgments. He did, after all, vote against going into Iraq in the first place". BO was not in the US Senate when that vote was taken. In what meaningless venue he might have so 'voted''; again, meaningless and of no consequence. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton and Joseph Biden DID so vote when their vote mattered. Lynne, carefully ease off your flimsy cardboard soap box before you hurt your self.
Good Life, I took your comments quite seriously and can ascertain from wherein your comments arise. Fortunately, reality is superior to limited perception.

Sarah Palin was chosen for one reason: to get women's votes — and hopefully, those of Democratic women who are disgrunted about the defeat of Hillary Clinton. It took Republican old boy's club 24 years after Democrats put a woman on the ticket as a potential vice president — Geraldine Ferraro — to do the same, and now only because they believe that Hillary supporters will support her.How dumb do they think women are? Obviously, very dumb, to support someone who is the antithesis of Clinton just because she's a woman. They're wrong: it won't work, and McCain just took the Bridge to Nowhere.
Dear OUTSIDER: How shal-LOW can you go?
Dear NINA: That was enough times to propose...
Corrrection: Dear NINA: That was enough times for me to propose...

Posted By: Lynne on Saturday, August 30, 2008 "Obama makes better judgments. He did, after all, vote against going into Iraq in the first place, and he did select someone who actually could step into the Presidency if, God forbid, something happens to him."Senator Obama must truly be something special. The Senate asked for and received his vote against invading Iraq? We invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003. Senator Obama was sworn in as a Senator on January 4, 2005.How can he take credit for being a Senator that voted against the war? While he may have opposed it in his mind and heart, like many other Americans, HE DID NOT VOTE ON THE ISSUE AT THE TIME BECAUSE HE WASN'T ELIGIBLE TO VOTE AS A SENATOR. It's just another one of his lies.He is a very intelligent man, but he is becoming entangled in his own web. "Oh what tangled webs we weave, when we practice to deceive."Our President should be an intelligent human being, but an intelligent human being knows when they are lacking knowledge about something. That is why they always have experts to draw knowledge from. They say that Barack Obama is smarter than John McCain. I have to ask why John McCain seemed so much brighter and more knowledgeable that Senator Obama during the last debate? Senator Obama left like a dog that had lost a fight: with his tail between his legs.Lynne is very worried about having Sarah Palin too close to the football, and having the ability to launch missiles. You are worried that she wouldn't know what was going on. Where have you been? When FDR died, he had treated Harry Truman like a mushroom. Stalin knew about our atomic bomb before Harry Truman did. Since then, thanks to Harry, the vice-president has ALWAYS been kept in the loop. We have had several vice-presidents need to take over temporarily. Johnson, of course, had to be sworn in when JFK was shot. The vice-president will be apprised of what is going on, no matter who wins the next presidential election.Sorry, Lynne, but it was a bad post.

I'm old enough to remember the Wonder Woman TV show. Palin looks just like her (in her gorgeous spectacled disguise) don't you think? She is SO sexy in that intellectual way, you know? And she was a beauty queen just like Lynda Carter too! I'm going to vote for her (and the other guy, what's-his-name) just because she is SUCH a babe! And my drinking buddies are going to as well. I just hope all those Hillary women come to see that their glass ceiling is about to broken with this choice, and vote with me...
Right-on Ted! Those lazy, good-for-nothin' N******RS should stop pretenting to act like us upright white folks and go back to their caves and trees, like the good Christian God intended! Go Palin (and that other guy too)!

Are you serious. Paulin a setback for women? The women is rasing 5 children, is a union member, who is runing the state of Alaska, and she is a setback for women? People really like to knock her down because she was on a beauty pageant. You know she got scholarship money for going on that peageant right, and since both of her parents were working class they probably didn't have enough to pay for her for college. God forbid her from being goodlooking. I mean if she can wear a dress and heels she's got to be something superficial. Hey people, If a woman feel confident in the inside and outside, then it will never be a stepback for women. Yeah she attended a beauty pageant, but then she was woken up 3 in the morning by her parents along with her brothers to go hunting. Hey isn't hunting a masculine thing to do. Its a shame her parents didn't stick to beauty pageants, they had to teach her to shoot and gave her the right to own a gun. God forbid that she use it if her life is in jepordy. Then she had to be so athletic in school that she won awards in it. Now that I think about it, beside McCain who in his young age was actually doing physical work in for the military, did Obama and Biden actually do anything energetic. I mean because holding books build strong muscles right. Oh, oh and the worst thing about Palin, is that she is a representation of middle class America. I mean really so what if your a union member, so what if you didn't abort your baby because it had down syndrome, so what if you actually care about the energy situation. I mean you have to be like Obama, you have to have a wife that makes 300,000 dollars a year cause you can't have a husband who is also a union member helping raise your children. Your suppose to stress the equality factor, but you can;t show it right. Oh and most importantly you can only claim the other party has corruption and you can't fix the corruption in your own party. Thank you so much for the person who posted up the statistics about palin being a team member. People are supercial especially when they judge people for being superficial. They saw in Palin's resume that she was a beauty pageant contestant, but they didn't see beyond that. The women holds grace and beauty that many do not realize. she can feel confident with high heels and with a gun. She's even confident enough to use that gun to provide for her family. Many working mom's today go to the grocery store purchasing uncooked chicker, and beef without realizing that someone did the hard labor to prepare to be in that condition for them to purchase it. She is runing a state, she didn't serve on the senate where they can debate and pass laws, no she ran everyting in that state. She decides everything and is responsible for everyone there. What kind of leadership do you want? I mean the last time I check Congress had lower approval ratings that Bush. People are arguing so many things. McCain picked her to fill the void that Hilary left people say. She is not a persons who supports women rights they also say. People aren't going to vote for her just because she is a women. All I know is that she is a mother of 5 runing the state of Alaska. She was put thier to solidify the Repuplican vote, and I believe she will. Her being a woman was a plus, a good change which is of course a bonus. For some people she is not their defination of female leader, I mean but really thats thier defination. I have my own, and mine counts equally as well. to the person that put up Palins statistics that many refuse to believe, thank you so much. You just guarenteed my vote for McCain/ Palin. I am independant and was leading towards Biden but not anymore. Some of the people who were quite vicious helped me lean that way. Thanks
That is not what I intended my rant to infer. I did not speak or learn Italian when I was growing up. I did not grow up in a multi lingual country untill some liberal minded dork decided to make it an issue. I have no room for predjudice. I was just pissed off that people no longer want to be called an American. People no longer want to speak english. In general people who reside in this country should be damn proud that they can and do have the freedom to critize a government that has become self serving.

Ecor, you are obviously a most arrogant and obnoxious ultra-far-right wing male who is obstreperous, rude and simply must have the last word. You are probably also a closet queen, but that's your business and your right, and also probably what is making you such and obnoxious character. Please refrain from further unpleasant blasts against others with whom you disagree: you don't put forth an alternate opinion, you attack them personally (as I just did to you, so that you would know how it felt), which is not the way to behave in a chat or a blog.As for Handforth and all other regressives I see out there, I would pray that there will be enough voters who will never again allow another administration like our current one to head this nation which will attempt to curtail or deprive American citizens of any of their Constitutional Rights - including the hard-won rights of women to vote and to control their own bodies. THERE ARE STILL TOO MANY MEN IN THIS COUNTRY WHO ARE INSECURE PATERNALIST ABUSERS WHO NEED TO BE REGULATED BY LAW IN ORDER TO PROTECT WIVES AND DAUGHTERS FROM THEM. THEY ARE THE ADULTERERS, THE WOMANIZERS, THE RAPISTS AND THE PEDOPHILES AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO FEEL THAT WOMEN ARE OBJECTS THAT THEY OWN. THIS IS WHY ABORTION LAWS MUST NEVER, EVER, EVER BE REPEALED. THIS IS ALSO WHY THE PENALTY FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL MOLESTATION OF A MINOR SHOULD BE DEATH.

How much do Republican bloggers get paid to troll sites like this? I see the same points being made, with similar syntax, strongly suggesting they're written with the help of talking points memos. I haven't seen the memos themselves but a clear pattern evolves pretty quickly comparing posts by people who strive to appear unconnected. And it's clear one of things Republican bloggers are instructed to do is to lean hard on the "executive" experience angle (as if local experience with a tiny trust fund state somehow surpasses experience dealing with national and international issues). Another highlight of the talking points, apparently, is that GOP bloggers are told to pretend to be an uncommitted voter or a disaffected Dem, then to finish off with a classic GOP position or a quick slam at the Dems.

Nothing like Democratic spin . . . it's hilarious! It's like watching the Wizard of Oz all over again. "Pay no attention to that fool behind the curtain". Presidential seeker Obamba talks pretty, looks pretty and best of all . . . he's BLACK . . . therefore, Obama don't need no experience (according to the Democrats)! What REALLY counts for the Democrats is they will feel proud and somewhat vindicated for slavery and an over abundance of white racism in America that happened DECADES AGO! Hugging a tree and preventing drilling, all the while, blaming the Republicans for the problems that the Democratic Congresses have created in our society (tolerance for "Freedom for anything goes" including the removal of Prayer and God). The last Census showed that ONLY 13.6 % of the entire U.S. population was Black but every TV hero, cop, judge, counselor, and God's gift to creation on any newly made Television show or Movie for the last 10 years . . . is BLACK (thanks to Democratic Hollywood). Ask any child watching TV today what HE thinks the percentage of Blacks are in America and he will tell you that it appears to be a much bigger number than 13.6%. Thank you Democratic Hollywood and years of racial news media hype! Presidential seeker McCain's got an incredible number of years of experience but the Democrats spin say "Oh my, that makes him too old, he's nothing but a McBush and his VP don't have no experience because she was only a Mayor"! Democrats will believe what they WANT to believe, rather than study the facts. The facts just don't agree with them too well. I'm surprised Bush hasn't yet been blamed for forming Hurricane Gustav and pointing it at New Orleans again. Give it time. After all, most liberal Democrats know for certain that it was a Presidential Bush plot that brought down the Twin Towers. Democrats don't want the public to fully understand that a President is limited ONLY to approving or vetoing the "DECISIONS' (or Bills) that are created, passed and placed in front of the President by Congress . . . a DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS! If a DEMOCRATIC Congress chooses to ignore an issue completely (i.e. terrorists or drilling during the Clinton years), handle it differently (i.e. wouldn't approve enough troops for a swift conclusion to free Iraq) or fill a Congressional Bill with tons of Pork Barrel (i.e. the reason for our skyrocketing government budget) then the President can do nothing because the issue was not put before him, or "take it or leave it" on what IS put in front of him! Yet, come election time, the Democratic Congress is "without fault" and the Republican President is to blame for EVERYTHING!!!! "Pay no attention to the Democratic Fools in Congress, grinning behind their curtain of Political deciet"
Right on, Rob! Thank goodness us Republicans are above all this "spin" stuff...!

So the phoney War Hero (3.8 total hours in combat, 4 planes culpably crashed.) brings us Palin. And Palin's background includes her lust for killing animals. Her father, "Chuck," brags about the "more than 1000 caribou antlers stacked in my drive way." (sic) And "Unless you enjoy little dead animals, you best not come to my house." (sic) These freaks are not "hunters." It is 2008. They are "killers," no more, no less. Needy freaks with a sickness of the heart and soul pretending to have that Westward Ho survival strength and spirit.Palin brings us a vast litany of well-travelled, seen-the-world, highly-experienced, worked-in-a-candy-store, mayor of a tiny hick town totality of experience. A wild-eyed, rabid, super-Christie, evangelical "Christian," with all the psychopathic hate which that term brings with it. Adding, of course, "God, Jesus, Patriot, Amurcun, Flag. Heroes, Winning Thee War, Stay thee course, Duh," etc. Totally typical Repupliscum. This collection of freaks makes Obama look like a combination of John Adams, Ben Franklin, Tom Jefferson, and George Wshington. Someone mentioned "Ecor." He's a bitter, failed old man who never evolved intellectually. Repeatedly reveals himself here to be an angry lightweight and a pansy. Best ignored or laughed at. "The Wrong Stuff."

Mr. Page's comments are more repetition than analusis of the Palin selection or the Biden selection, or who is better fit to be President, "just in case." Mr. Biden, 66, is not much younger than Mr. McCain, and is much older than Mr. Obama. Mr. Biden has had at least three life threatening medical issues, two involving brain operation and one a blood clot in a lung, while Ms palin is very healthy with no medical issues, and is 22 years younger than Mr. Biden! Mr. Page notes Mr. Biden is "seasoned" where some would say he just another white politician with hair plus and and over stated resume. It is sad that "expertise" in Washington politics is equal to survival and Mr. Biden has survived 36 years in Washington with a very thin record of accomplishment. He in not known for any substantive legislation and is given to a talking style without end (or content) that made the usually very staid and underspoken newscaster, then at ABC News, in a moment of frustration inerviewing Mr. Biden, call him a "windbag." Ms Palin on the other hand seems to be direct and on point in public.Mr. Biden has had exactly zero, non, none, executive experience--neither has Mr. Obama, with even a thinner record of accomplishment. Mr. Biden has had serious issues with overstaing his academic record, and with using other people's speeches. Mr. Obama has serious challenges in his friendship with convicted terrorists, racist clergy for 20-plus years, and convicted realtors.Ms. Palin is all about executive experience. People forget that Alaska is huge, perhaps 1/4 or more the size of the lower 48--Mr. Obama had some difficulty knowing how many states we have when he said he "had visited 57 of our 58 states." Ms. Palin has has foreign affairs experience. People foprget Russia is only 23 miles away from Alaska and there is interaction with Russians probbly almost every day. Ms Palin deals with more ethnic groups than any other part of the U.S. inthat there are treaty agreements with the multitude of Alaskan tribal entities. Again, neither Mr. Obama, or Mr. Biden has done anything "real" in foreign agreements or treaty obligations. Ms. Palin is the executive in charge of the state "richest" in natural resources that include, minerals such as gold and silver, even coal, natural gas, oil, and another list of wealth. Ms Palin is the executive of a state rich in other resources that includes timber, fisheries, even the horrible fact of allowing native groups to continue hunting whales as a treaty right. Neither Mr. Obama or Mr. Biden has any such expertise. Ms Palin is involved in an international agreement to build a gas pipeline through Canada, a $40 billion project. Ms Palin was able to give each Alaskan large rebates from oil profits. Neither Mr. Obama or Mr. Biden has any such record. One wonders if the concerted attempt to see Ms Palin as deficient in experience or accomplishment is more reflective of an anti-feminist posture of supposedly issue sensitive Democrats, or more an attempt to hide the looming inadequate record of Mr. Obama, a person without substantive accomplishment beyond being an ordinary Chicago politician, or Mr. Biden, "a legend in his own mind."It is time for change, but the change, more and more, seems to be that we need a modest self-deprecating candidate, such as Mr. McCain ("I am as old as dirt, and have more scars than Frankenstein,") with a lifetime of service to this nation. We need a Vice President with energy, solid executive experience and accomplishment and we need a woman in that role.

Nothing like a sense that you are losing to bring out the dogs and the desparate attempts at character assassination. All the vote rigging and dirty tactics are not going to help you this time!!!. The tide will be overwhelming like Hurricane Katrina. I suspect that when all else has failed there will be another red flag operation setting off some disaster which will galvanize people around the status quo. Look for it and its timing.I felt so sorry for the citizens of New Orleans and so disgusted with the lack of response and leadership when Katrina struck. ( I dont understand why people are returning to a site which is obviously not able to survive the current climate change)Now another hurricane is descending on her. The only good thing about that is that the timing is perfect for Amricans to be reminded of the way a Republican administration has shown such an uncaring attitude and lack of leadeship in the face of human misery. McCain no doubt will postpone the Convention to avoid that association. He will be right there waving the flag and showing a sense of command kind of like cowboy Bush dressed in combat gear on the Air craft carrier under the Banner "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED".Well not this time diehard Republicans !!!Fool us once shame on us. Fool us twice shame on you. Fool us thrice, we are lost to fascism. By the way I am not affiliated with any party so this is not sponsored by the Democrats. However Go Obama !!!!.
Hatrina?Must be the President's fault that another storm is heading for the Gulf, or perhaps the inept and corrupt politics of New Orleans is to blame just as much as the inept management of the last storm, or perhaps that sitting in a depression below sealevel in a place that a large, urban area should not be is to blame. One wonders why all taxpayers should pay to build higher walls of concrete to keep the sea out, in a completley illogical place to live. one is amazed at the cost, already and still paid, by cities like Houston that absorbed the previous storm's victims. One notes thay are not anxious to return. But then this is a political year and all blame ends up in the opposing party. Yet Katrina saw fools who are Democrats, just as the storm saw fools who are Republicans.

This is to Lynne and all the Democrats that thinks Nobama voted against going into Iraq. Here's the quote from your letter, Lynne. "Obama makes better judgments. He did, after all, vote against going into Iraq in the first place, and he did select someone who actually could step into the Presidency if, God forbid, something happens to him."Well Lynne this just shows you are not paying attention to what Nobama is saying out there. You see Lynne, Nobama wasn't in the Federal government at the time the vote was taken! He was a state senator then. Not a U.S. senator. He even has said this! Maybe you should REALLY LISTEN to what Nobama is saying! He has said "He wouldn't have voted to go to war" But because he wasn't in the U.S. senate, so this point is moot. By the way everybody, even the Clintons and the weapons inspectors and foreign leaders said Hussien had the WMDS and he actually used the WMDS against he own people and Iran. Did you not see the pictures of the mass graves that were found in Iraq? You said Nobama has better judgment than McCain. Do those "better judgments" include dealing with a convicted felon (Resko) (if somebody funneled $14 million to me I would sell them a strip of my property, of course I'm not a slum lord)who by the way was under indictment when Nobama had him buy the house in Chicago and anti American Rev. Wright, for 20 years? I suppose you believe that Nobama had no idea what the Rev. Wright was really like? Then there is the American Terrorist William Ayers. If elected, maybeNobama will invite Ayers back into the capitol building so he can finish the job the Weather Undetrground started. After all Ayers said "they didn't do ehough" in the 70's. I about feel out of my chair, during Nobama's speech the other night when Nobama said "I am my brothers keeper" I guess he must've forgotten about his half brother George. George lives in Narobi, in a 6x9 foot shack on $12 a year. That's really helping out the little people, wouldn't you agree? You can check out all these facts by doing a little research on your own.If Nobama really wanted "change", why did he pick a 35 year Washington insider for the VP? That doesn't sound like change to me! Nobama was corrupt in Illinois and he'll be corrupt in Washington too!
Don is OBVIOUSLY correct! Any city stupid enough to find itself hit by a major catastrophe deserves every single thing it gets! Why should I be asked to bail out California the next time their earthquakes hit Los Angeles or San Francisco?! And don't get me started on the wild fires in San Diego! Imagine the wisdom of living in an area surrounded by all those trees! People deserve exactly what they get! That is the American way, isn't it? But there was just one thing I didn't appreciate, Don. How can you say there are fools who are Repubicans?! How can you say that! Look at our wonderful, brave President! Would you call HIM a fool?!
Bzr: That "Nobama" guy sounds just like that other guy running for president! How wierd is THAT! Are you sure they aren't related?
I see Mayor Nagen and the Governor learned from the last hurricane to get the 1000's of busses ready to evacuate the citizens of New Orleans this time! He should have done it before Katrina hit the city. They had 3-4 days warning before Katrina hit. It is good he learned from his last mistake. Hopefully he won't be crying to the cameras about how the Federal Gov isn't doing anything!

Do we want Sarah to be the one to order troops into combat, should JMcC die in office? Does she have the right stuff? I'm not too sure about that.
The thing is, either one of these guys, John or Barack, would probably make a good president. I'm not so worried about either one, and I'm a Democrat. I think both of them realize that the Bush administration was on a power trip. I just hope whoever wins will care about the average citizen who is struggling. We aren't keeping up in the world economy anymore, and our standard of living is going downhill fast. Can anyone help us out, get this situation turned around? Or is it an inevitable consequence of globalization?

BZR... Louisianna has a new Governor, they smartly got rid of the one who was in charge during the Katrina chrisis... By the way, the Federal Government COULD NOT do anything in Louisanna until they were asked by the Louisianna Governor for their help. As in all states, the feds can not interfere until ASKED to do so...
Deb... Our economy started to go downhill as soom as one of our Presidents signed up with NAFTA... During the 1992 presidential debates, one of the debators warned all of us about this fact long before it happened... Sadly he did not win the Presidency... We as a people are resopnsible for what happens to our economy... The question should be, do I want to give my hard earned dollars to a country that does not want to spend their Dollars / Yen / Rubles / Euros over here??? Or do I want to spend my money in MY country... Please let me know what your choice is...
Johnny, please return to school: there is nothing wrong with my grammar, punctuation or spelling other than the terminology might be above your educational level. Sorry that you had trouble understanding me and understanding that I was NOT attacking you, but defending you, silly little man.As for those Republifools who continue to insist that President Clinton was responsible for this, that and the other horrible law that was enacted during his presidency, I would like to point out that he was at the mercy of a REPUBLICAN CONGRESS during both of his terms of office. This means that the Republicans are primarily responsible for NAFTA, folks, not Clinton, who was pressured into signing the bill, as he was pressured into signing so many other nasties by the Republican Congress.Facts are facts: its a shame that the Republicans simply can't be mature enough to take responsibility for their mistakes, always sling mud and run away when caught with their pants down in scandal. As for the Republicans being responsible for the downing of the Twin Towers, one only need think back to President Bush's initial reaction when being told of the crash by the Secret Service man, as recorded on tape: his face depicts him saying: "Oooooh!" with raised eyebrows, as though he had heard that a game had just begun! The appropriate facial reaction should have been a deep frown...and it wasn't, indicating that he probably had foreknowledge.....think about it.

Hey, Ted Marino! You say that you didn't learn your parents' language? What a shame! My father also immigrated here from Europe with his parents, served with the U.S. Army in WWII, spoke five languages and made sure to teach them to me. Because he started teaching me foreign languages when I was a baby (I spoke four languages fluently by age four) and exposed me to records with music and spoken words in still other languages, I was able to master eleven languages by the time I was eighteen. Not enough Americans even master their own language, much less learn a second language, as they do in Europe and elsewhere in the world, and it really puts us at a disadvantage. The average European schoolchild can speak at least three languages: the average American child struggles with English - and I am not referring to recent arrivals, either. To live in this world we must be a part of it.

( I dont understand why people are returning to a site which is obviously not able to survive the current climate change)"I partially agree with the above statement. Why did so many fools return to New Orleans? Current climate change? Is this a Republican plot to eliminate Democrats and minorities? Was hurricane Katrina the first time that New Orleans has been in danger?New Orleans was building levees before the Civil War. Their problems are not new In the flood of 1927, for instance, they had to blow a levee protecting another community to save New Orleans. The people in the smaller town were promised compensation for the losses of their homes. Very few of them got anything for their losses. Some of them evacuated to New Orleans and were CHARGED for food and housing by the city. New Orleans has been corrupt since it was a center for the slave trade. We Americans should be disgusted about what happened before, during and after hurricane Katrina. Looting? They may have set an American record. Crime? A rescue group was robbed at gunpoint. Rape and assault? Worse than Mardi Gras. Resistance? Some rescue helicopters were shot at! Government organization? That was an oxymoron. Both the Mayor and the Governor waited too long before they realized how bad the situation would be. They acted too late. The public didn't help any, either. They were used to braving out the storm at hurricane parties. Many others didn't have the means to get away. When it was over last time, I remember suggesting that the insurance companies add 10-20% to the claims if the insured agreed to relocate. If they refused to relocate, they should only get half. That would've been a great incentive to reduce the number of people in New Orleans, instead of letting nature and crime do it.The book that I read about the 1927 flood mentioned the people of New Orleans looking UP and seeing ships at the levee ABOVE the city. Not only would I never want to live there, I don't even want to risk a visit.I do see that the Mayor of New Orleans has ordered the people to leave before hurricane Gustav becomes another problem. Neither he, nor the Governor has asked for Federal Aid, yet.I am just curious about how New Orleans will fare this time. Will the smart ones leave in time? Will the other ones survive? If they do, will the want free transit to another city and free hotels when they get there? Will they expect America to bail them out again?

Looks to me like this site has largely been taken over by wackos. First, every intelligent, moderately informed American should be overjoyed by the pending departure of Bush & Cheney. Second, either Obama or McCain should be a major improvement over the incumbent. Third, the House and Senate will be overwhelming Democratic. If we want little from government, McCain is our man. If McCain dies in office, we still will get little from government with Palin in office. If we want an active government, Obama is the choice. Should Biden succeed Obama, we will still get an active government. There you go: no nasty words, no false "facts," and no bull shit.
Posted By: Donald Wolberg on Monday, September 01, 2008
One must wonder at the non-critical and sophomoric comments of Mr. Scutt. It would be reasonable that "The governmnet that governs least, govern best," would be a far better banner for Democrats or Republicans and was in line with the first principles of these parties, until the abuses and abusers of both parties assumed ideological control. Both parties overspend, the democrats on the left and far left, and the Republicans on the right and far right. It was Mr. Kennedy and his chief economic advisor, Dr. Walter Heller, who saw the wisdom of major tax cuts and it is Mr. Bush that is spending us into disaster. Mr. Obama, with no experience or accomplishment (and it seems limited intellect) promises the very left promise of "taking from THEM and giving to you," as if that is the purpose of government. Mr. McCain is lss than clear if he would do anything at all.

She won the Governorship by a 42% vote margin."Barb, is this anything like Obama voting against the war in Iraq in 2003 when he didn't become a Senator until 2005?Sarah Palin was sworn in as Governor in December of 2006. The planning and initial funding for the bridge started two yerars BEFORE Sarah Palin was elected. The bridge, by the way wasn't being built to serve the fifty people living on the island. It was supposed to serve the thousands of people that used the airport on the island each year. The problem was that initial estimates were too low (what's new) and when you factored in the many unforseen additional costs, the bridge could not be justified. That's when Sarah Palin cancelled the bridge, as it could no longer be justified. She took a lot of flak in her State for that, but the cost of the bridge wouldn't be fair to the rest of Alaska, or to the rest of the United States. What had started as a spotted owl turned into an albatross.Give her credit for courage.

Nasty people talk about other people's kids. Don't blame the kids; blame the parents. George Bush's daughters may have been drunk in public, but they come by it genetically. George was an alcoholic for years. Indeed, even his arrest records were not sober enough to stick around. Now we have narrow minded people remarking on Governor Palin's pregnant single 17 year old, due to give birth in December. It certainly is not the daughter's fault. Look at the Republican Vice Presidential nominee and start counting months between marriage and the birth of her first child. Perhaps the daughter merely inherited an affectionate, carefree, and careless nature from her mother.
When I was young and desperate for cash, I worked two jobs. Now I'm old, desperate for cash and can't get a job. I don't even count as unemployed because my benefits ran out a long time ago.Glen Scutt is pretty close to the mark when he compares GW's kids to their Daddy. It's not always true, though. Chelsea Clinton is turning into quite a lady, regardless of who her parents are.Sadly, most of our leaders have had people fixing things for them. One of the two jobs that I held was as an Interstate bus driver, when the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) existed. I was a commuter who drove a busload of fellow commuters into Manhatten from New Jersey. Many truck and bus drivers had multiple driver's licenses to spread their traffic ticket points around, so that they wouldn't lose a license. The ICC put a stop to that practice and created a Federal law against anyone having more than one driver's license. To this day, you still have to turn in your old license when you move to a new State and apply for a new one. What does that have to do with the price of eggs? When our President had his drunk driving accident in Maine, his license was suspended. That was no big deal, though, because his Texas license was not affected. That was in the newspapers at the time, but only a professional driver would jump up and scream about the favoritism.I'm not for Obama, but I haven't liked an American Prrsident since Daddy Bush. At least he flew in combat with distinction. The next two Presidents were draft dodgers.

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine. A little over one year ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high; 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon; 3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%. 4) The DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 + 5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, & vacations. But American's wanted 'CHANGE'S! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress & yep--we got 'CHANGE' all right!..... 1) Consumer confidence has plummeted; 2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing! 3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase); 4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS & prices still dropping; 5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure. 6) As I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~11,300--$2.5 TRILLIONDOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS! YEP, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE!...AND WE SURE GOT IT!!!....NOW the DEM'S CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT--AND THE POLLS SAY HE'S GONNA BE 'THE MAN'--CLAIMS HE'S GONNA REALLY GIVE US CHANGE!!....JUST HOW MUCH MORE 'CHANGE' DO YA THINK YOU CAN STAND???.....

It is a sad contrivance that veils what is the result of the connivance of the Repubs who were in over the prior seven years! Any Economist worth his/her salt will tell you that this "correction" has been expected for years because of the reckless management of the nation's economy under that Republican Congress you all love to tout. Own up to it or shut up altogether. We are sick of the Far Right slinging mud all of the time: haven't you any manners at all?

Rob--The economy hasn't been "fine" since we started tinkle down economics 28 years ago. The stock market has risen because the top has had money to warehouse. But the middle and bottom have increased productivity with no reward. The US economy is so large that it has been running on inertia for those 28 years, but that inertia has been slowly and steadily eroding. That is how we got here. Constantly rising stock markets as the rich warehoused money but more and more in the middle and bottom with less and less. Where is that money that was to tinkle down? The middle and low have been pxssed on but the money hasn't come down.
