Guilty!

One of the nation's premier newspapers fesses up about allegations of pro-Obama bias. The Washington Post's ombudsperson, Deborah Howell, tracked its presidential campaign stories, front-page coverage and use of photos covering the period from Obama's nomination on June 4 to Election Day. The result?

Howell writes: "The op-ed page ran far more laudatory opinion pieces on Obama, 32, than on Sen. John McCain, 13. There were far more negative pieces about McCain, 58, than there were about Obama, 32, and Obama got the editorial board's endorsement. …

"Stories and photos about Obama in the news pages outnumbered those devoted to McCain. Reporters, photographers and editors found the candidacy of Obama, the first African American major-party nominee, more newsworthy and historic. Journalists love the new; McCain, 25 years older than Obama, was already well known and had more scars from his longer career in politics.

"The number of Obama stories since Nov. 11 was 946, compared with McCain's 786. Both had hard-fought primary campaigns, but Obama's battle with Hillary Rodham Clinton was longer, and the numbers reflect that.

"McCain clinched the GOP nomination
on March 4, three months before Obama won his. From June 4 to Election Day, the tally was Obama, 626 stories, and McCain, 584. Obama was on the front page 176 times, McCain, 144 times; 41 stories featured both. …

"But Obama deserved tougher scrutiny than he got, especially of his undergraduate years, his start in Chicago and his relationship with Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, who was convicted this year of influence-peddling in Chicago. The Post did nothing on Obama's acknowledged drug use as a teenager. …

"One gaping hole in coverage involved Joe Biden, Obama's running mate. When Gov. Sarah Palin was nominated for vice president, reporters were booking the next flight to Alaska. Some readers thought The Post went over Palin with a fine-tooth comb and neglected Biden. They are right."

Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!

Now, when can we expect The New York Times (endorsed Obama); Los Angeles Times (endorsed Obama); Chicago Tribune (endorsed Obama); and the other major papers to man up and admit their bias and their resultant anti-McCain, anti-Republican, pro-Obama coverage? What about ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN?

So, what does this admission tell us going forward?

Isn't it funny that we just elected the most liberal senator in congress promising more than liberal/socialist policies, while aready backtracking on the "tax relief" policy credited with getting him elected we still have a country who feels following:

President Bush Job Approval

                        approval   disapproval       difference

RCP Average 11/06 - 11/10 27.3          69.0           -41.7

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_bush_job_approval-904.html

Congressional Job Approval

                         approval   disapproval       difference

RCP Average 10/23 - 11/10  18.3           73.3            -55.0

So the Hated Bush the Demon from hell still has half again the approval as that of congress.

Jack, I think that history will be kinder to George Bush than it will be to Bill Clinton.  When both men are gone, their lives will be researched and written about by people without an axe to grind.

Neither one was a military man.  Clinton created a surplus by almost decimating the military and Bush started out by micro-managing the war.  Both were wrong and should have consulted the professionals.

Now we'll get to see if a man that has never held a job for more than three years can handle his four year obligation to serve ALL AMERICANS.

John

"Neither one was a military man."

One served, one fled the draft to England and held demonstrations, both did drugs, both held elected offices, but I do agree that ultimate history, not rewritten by the liberal revisionists will be kinder.

The political pendulum swings both ways, I hated the John Birch era as much as I hate the present liberal vacus souled era. We will not have a better nation electing the empty suit we have, but to the extent he is now the new norm we will accept it, and fight against the liberal hell he proposes. Oddly the most reviled man in the last century, Joe McCarthy was absolutely right about the Roosevelt and Truman governments having communists in office steering policy for the Russians/Stalin, as the Venona Intercepts point out. But I guess I’d rather see the Hollywood d-elite in the Lincoln, rather than the raft of anarchists, bombers, PLO terrorists and assorted Chi-town crooks that are to “crumb-up” the place.

I personally look forward to ‘bama to be a worse president for the country than Clinton ever was. I morn for the country being run by the “I hate America crowd”.

As far as Clinton's Surplus, I'm afraid that the Rep Congress had far more to do with that than the attempts at Hillary Care. Of course the Republicans had to roll back Clintons promise breaking Tax Increase on the middle class (just as will 'bama), but then the Rep's actually acted as Republicans, big "R".

Jack -

I was always ashamed of W's military service.  To be kind, I'll say that he missed a lot of formations.  In another post, I said that we had 16 years of the Commander-in-Chief either never having worn the uniform or being a disgrace to it.

Daddy Bush, on the other hand, was a decorated combat pilot.  Big difference.

I'm not looking forward to sharing the wealth, either.  I own my house, but I can't take in any boarders, other than the grandchild that we are raising.

Anyone ever consider that perhaps Obama ran a better race, and may have been the better story?

Truthfully, I was insulted at the idea that as a non-hockey-supporting, Leroy Six-Pack American with a miltary veteran father, I really didn't fit with the Republican idea of what makes a real American.

The Republicans need to rethink who does and does not count in this country. Either that or they need to throw away the "us" v. "them" playbook.
