Too bad there are no real issues in this election; just the sex lives of people who aren't even candidates.

This is really getting boring. Maybe you should go back to repeating "Drill now!" again. That at least was kind of funny.

And just thinking: wouldn't the painted version of John Edwards look something like... John McCain...? Why isn't his affair & ditching of his first wife relevant?

Maybe because Edwards' wife is suffering from cancer, and she still supported him in his bid for the nomination. There was obviously much love there on her side to make such a sacrifice. This is what makes Edwards' actions so deplorable.

We know absolutely nothing about the circumstances of McCain's first marriage. As I recall, they married before he went to Vietnam. Then, while in Vietnam, he was captured and tortured (certainly a life-changing experience). Then when he returned, he found that his wife had been in a horrible car accident that left her changed as well. They apparently tried to make it work for several years, but in the end, they couldn't, and he started having affairs. This led to the end of the marriage.

Now, I'm not trying to defend McCain, but he has had a much rougher road and has been tested much more sorely than Edwards could even come close to. I think most people are trying to cut McCain some slack based upon this fact. I don't believe it has anything to do with being a Republican or a Democrat, it has to do with understanding that traumatic events can have a serious effect on one's actions, which is definitely not a defense that Edwards can use.
